What a Ride in Life Collecting Everything
Else The marigold Pipe Humidor is a pride and joy of Emmett’s. He always wanted one because he said it would complete and round out our collection. It has fabulous color and used to belong to Pete and Paula Bingham who bought it from a great Texas collector, Fred Allair who bought it from Jim Seeck. There are not enough words to describe this fabulous piece of glass that would look good in your collection. If you like Millersburg, you will like this piece. The marigold on custard Poppy Pickle dish is dark with those cute poppies. There are not many of these around and Emmett got this one off e-bay years ago when you could find great pieces for “buy it now” with a reasonable price.
Another great piece Emmett got off e-bay years ago and a rarity because it is the only known reported one in purple. I am talking about the Cosmos and Cane spittoon. It looks purple with even color all around. Talk about a cutie- that it is!!! Anyone would be proud to own this spittoon. Now one of my favorite pieces in this group is the blue stippled banded Grape and Cable large fruit bowl. It is a killer!!! I bought this from Mordini years ago and I had to think long and hard about having this in the auction. I just love that electric blue and yellow iridescence on this bowl. It is a spectacular piece of glass. I love it for its iridescence, because it is a big piece of glass and most of all it makes a statement. If you like table sets than take a look at the electric purple Luster Rose table set that will be sold as a set. It took us years to get the pieces to match. Here you have the opportunity to have a matching set with one winning bid!!!
You know I like big pieces and the Mikado pattern is a favorite of mine. I know this glass is our glass but the marigold IC Mikado is the best out there. I had to pay for this piece at an Air Capital convention because another bidder, can’t remember his name right now but still our friend, wanted it also. I knew I was paying way too much for this piece but the heat of the auction had its grip!!! I finally stood up and said who is bidding against me and of course Jim Seeck took it from there!!! There is probably no such thing as “electric marigold” but that is what I consider this one to have. Probably will not get my money out of it, but the years of looking at it almost every day is well worth the money!!! The electric green Mikado is also something to behold. It has a couple of manufacturing splits but the color is awesome. The IC shaped blue Mikado is also something to be proud to own. If you want a nice Mikado, any of these three will fit the bill.
We have a lot of Hearts and Flowers Compotes in this auction. Take a look at the pictures but maybe the green Hearts and Flowers compote might be one of the better ones out there. We purchased it years ago from Elvis Randal and where he got it from is the mystery. We have a Renniger blue, ice green, ice blue, ice blue opal and lavender for sale in this auction. The marigold Diamond Rib jardiničre also makes a statement for a short fat piece of glass!!! It has color all the way to the bottom and again these do not often come up for sale. The purple Pansy dresser tray is a sight to behold. It screams with color with a radium finish. We got this from Judy Maxwell’s auction which I think she got from Roy Kato and both have a great eye for color!!!
The Peacock at Fountain compotes are also a great pattern. We have an aqua opal, ice green, blue, purple and marigold for sale and they are all beautiful. We tried to get a great green one off e-bay but the Don & Becky Hamlet were faster on the computer!!!! We saw it when we went to see them and it is great. If you want to see a great collection, they have one of the best in the country. Another rarity in this auction is a purple stippled Singing Birds mug. We were antiquing at our Warrenton Round-Top antique show and on a table was this mug. A man was selling his mother’s collection and I immediately picked it up and would not let go of it. Emmett said, “Why was I holding this purple mug because he said there are plenty of these around”. Needless to say, when I told Emmett he was wrong and that this was rare, he still was not convinced. I did not listen to him, gave the man his money, went to the car where our books were and immediately informed Emmett (with documentation) that he was wrong!!!! It really felt good to tell Emmett he was wrong!!!
The Panther center piece bowls are also quite scarce and we have a blue and marigold for sale. The marigold was again purchased at the Warrenton Round-Top antique show. I can see many of you thinking that maybe you should come to Texas during these shows because there might be some good glass for sale. You do not need to bother because it does not happen now!!!!!!! Did I convince you? The blue Panther was bought from Dave Drabing at an Air Capital Convention. It has great color with the panther looking good!!!! They are both nice pieces and again, if you want something that does not come up often, one of these would fill the bill. Dorothy and Emmett Morgan |
